In spring of 2021, Gabriel Studer-Randall was looking into film school applications. In order to apply for many of them, you have to submit a short film. One popular prompt was: Make a sub-2-minute short with no dialogue in which a character faces a tough decision. That was a great start for us to begin writing.
As with all writing, the story went through many iterations before becoming the version that we filmed. Flasks, guns, multiple cars, graves and more were thrown around in our pot of ideas, but we eventually decided that implications were ultimately more powerful and interesting than clarity. The motive of the main character is still clear (although it may not be justifiable) even though nothing is explicit. Did he make the right choice? That's for you to decide.
