This was not a hard song for Emil to write. It's about someone you trusted not telling you that they wanted to share with someone else what you thought they were only giving to you. Betrayal is a theme in the song, something that has followed him through many relationships.

When asked about the lyrics, Emil said "I finally found that sense that 'I may just be losing interest in the bruising of my heart,' even though I wasn’t really able to let go of the pain, in this case, at least not until much later, I really wanted to find a way to talk about it without turning it into self pity,...something that just gets old after a certain age.'"
