Microscope Stained Glass

This project came about while fooling around with an old microscope that was given to me when I was younger. One of my sample slides had a slightly crushed corner that looked kind of otherworldly under the microscope, and the first thing I thought of was to grab a CD and reflect the rainbow light into the glass, something I've been doing with all sorts of photography projects since I was in middle school.

At such a small scale, the prism effect of the CD that splits white light into its separate frequencies is amplified even though the CD is close to the glass, because the different angles of the cracks in the glass catch different parts of the spectrum. In some cases you can see the entire rainbow in an area that's around 1/8 of a square inch, and given enough tinkering with the positions of the sample, the CD, and the light source, you can find all sorts of interesting mosaics hidden in tiny places.
