Photo Project

July 2021

As you may be able to tell from this project and others, I've been obsessed with refracting light since I was young. There's no larger project or goal with this collection, just a bunch of pretty pictures that were the result of me playing with light for a couple days in summer of 2021.

The photos of glass on canvas paper were the result of me reflecting my phone light off a CD and through a glass window piece or a prism I had lying around, as one does.

The three photos of the prism against a patterned rainbow background were comparatively complicated. I had the idea earlier in the day to reflect CD light onto the ceiling, but had to wait for nighttime because the effect wasn't strong enough with ambient light bouncing around. I laid CDs out in a grid and set up a very strong light, but even that wasn't enough for my camera to pick up without taking a long exposure. Of course, that gave me another idea, and the three images from that batch below were all taken by waving a light through different colored gels for the prism to reflect into the camera.
